There’s a real nice collection of pictures at http://blackwaterdog.wordpress.com/; including some table tennis action shots.
HIS voice, that velvet-rich, immense voice, rose and soared and his words were carried by the wind down Dame Street, around College Green, up towards Christchurch, over the sea of people who had come to hear him.
“Is féidir linn. Yes we can. Yes we can. Is féidir linn,” Barack Obama called into the late afternoon as the electric air

Pay attention to the introduction.
“If there’s anyone out there that still doubts that Ireland is a place,
where all things are possible
who still wonders if the dreams of our ancestors is alive in our time
who still questions our capacity to restore ourselves, to reinvent ourselves and to prosper
well today is your answer
because today, on this day, the president of the united states, Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama come to visit”
“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”
This is President Obama’s Victory Speech
NOTHING QUITE prepares a person for the sight of the President of the United States wandering so close. Or the impish look in his eye as he gladhands his way through the wheelchair enclosure and coolly takes the phone from Jessica Walls to say “Hi†to her mother Glynis, minding her business in her Skerries kitchen, cooking spaghetti Bolognese. No point in pretending to be objective.
Psychologist Maureen Gaffney raised the tone just a tad by quoting Edmund Burke. “Obama is a natural aristocrat. He is emotionally pitch perfect. Burke called it the natural aristocracy – people of unbelievable vigour, zest and character. . . â€
The charges are familiar: He’s a compromiser who hasn’t stood up to the GOP or Wall Street. But a look at his record reveals something even more startling – a truly historic presidency.
Original article is here:
There’s a percentage of america that is too busy for politics.
They get the 30 second sound bits, or the “angry” gop, or the confused and angry tea party.
What many don’t see, is that Obama’s doing exactly what he said he’d do.
He’s got the best record of keeping campaign promises in our history – and we’re only half way through his first term.
If america was paying attention, there would be no way the foxpublican tea party would gain seats next week.
The majority voted for Obama, but apparently many don’t realize that the republican party has stood in the way of EVERYTHING we voted for.
This article rightly describes republicans as ” an opposition party bent on obstruction at any price.”
For those of you who say – but what about the supermajority?
Al Franken wasn’t sworn in until the summer of 2009. 6 months later, Scott Brown was elected and the supermajority was ended.
The supermajority included moderate republican, arlen spectre.
The supermajority included joe lieberman, who campaigned for mccain.
The supermajority included many conservative democrats, such as ben nelson.
The article points out that both LBJ and FDR had more favorable congresses.
“What’s even more impressive about Obama’s accomplishments, historians say, is the fractious political coalition he had to marshal to victory. “He didn’t have the majority that LBJ had,” says Goodwin. Indeed, Johnson could count on 68 Democratic senators to pass Medicare, Medicaid and the Voting Rights Act. For his part, Franklin Roosevelt had the backing of 69 Senate Democrats when he passed Social Security in 1935. At its zenith, Obama’s governing coalition in the Senate comprised 57 Democrats, a socialist, a Republican turncoat — and Joe Lieberman.”
There was a big fuss from the right last time Obama bowed to a foreign leader.
Apparently we have some that think America is so superior that we dare not pay heed to our allies customs.
But they apparently are ok with our previous president slippin’ some tonque to the saudi prince (something like that).
On this trip to Asia, our President stopped in Japan and gave a great bow to the Emperor and Empress.
The world is ending! lol.
I kid, but I haven’t yet gotten to see if this is making the typical rounds through righty paranoid blogs.
Here is the reaction from some japanese, regarding “the bow”.
“What a bow!â€
“Such a deep bow from Obama, what a fine guy.â€
“I’m surprised he bowed. He’s really trying hard to meet the Japanese way!â€
“President Obama is a top-class person, isn’t he? Amazing!â€
“The Emperor is giving a nice smile!â€
“Is the Japanese Emperor really that special?â€
“The Emperor or the Pope, the President or the Prime Minister, whoever is greater is not something that I think can be decided objectively.â€
“I laughed because it was a much better bow than I had imagined.â€
“Obama has more of a true Japanese heart than most Japanese do.â€
UPDATE: Nov. 16
The president’s encounter with Emperor Akihito has some conservatives crying foul.

And Karl Rove’s reaction is below.
Rove Attacks Obama For Bowing: He Should Do What All Presidents Have Done And ‘Not Bow To Monarchies’
This weekend Saturday Night Live took on Obama, listing campaign promises that he has not kept.
Their list is bogus.
But many people refuse to let facts affect their opinions.
Politifact does not agree with SNL on a single item of that skit.
Their page is here:
CNN also fact-checks SNL:
President Obama has ordered government agencies to come up with a plan to reduce their emissions by 2020.
I applaud the effort – its something.
And I understand trying to get one piece of major legislation done at a time.
47 promises kept
7 promises broken
And politifact has fact-checked SNL’s Obama spoof from this weekend.
SNL’s spoof is here:
Rachel Maddow takes a look at Obama’s surprise announcement at the G20 regarding Iran’s secret nuclear facility.
She refers to the announcement as diplomatic shock-and-awe.
It is refreshing to have an administration understand the term diplomacy.
Rachel Maddow is on at 6pm PST on MSNBC.
She also has a show on Air America Radio (http://www.airamerica.com/), which attempts to provide balance to the right-wing nuttery being pushed by the clear channel.
Saturday Night Live’s Weekend update highlights the crazyness of one of Fox’s finest crazy men.
